Children can travel well, but it takes patience and planning

Parents often leave for the holidays with visions of warm family dinners, twinkling lights, mugs of cocoa.

But they frequently return home in a state of near-collapse, worn out by screaming meltdowns, endless airport delays and, for the truly unlucky, in-flight sickness.

While no one can guarantee a perfect holiday, seasoned travelers say a little preparation and a good attitude can help smooth any turbulence.
